Dr. Lin is a versatile surgeon, specializing in laser urological surgery that treat BPH bladder tumor urethral stricture, chronic cystitis and genital warts. Since 1995, he has performed laser prostatectomy (with KTP and YAG). In 2002, Dr. Lin became the first urologist in the southeastern United States to perform a new laser procedure called the GreenLight PV System. The GreenLight PVP procedure provides an alternative to Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) as a treatment for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasis (BPH), a non-cancerous form of prostate disease. Dr. Lin has administered the GreenLight PVP procedure to and treated patients who have traveled to St. Augustine from as far away as Texas, Illinois and Canada.

TURP. TURP is an invasive procedure that has been considered the primary urological treatment for BPH. The recovery process can be long and painful, requiring an stay in the hospital and the use of a catheter for several days.

Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate (PVP) with GreenLight - The Preferred Alternative to TURP. The GreenLight PVP System was approved in November 2001 by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of BPH. Unlike TURP, the GreenLight PVP procedure can be administered on an outpatient basis. The procedure requires only light anesthesia, is relatively painless, has a much shorter recovery period than TURP, and most importantly, has remarkable results. This treatment works by completely vaporizing the excess prostate tissue by applying a laser delivered through a fiber optic probe. The laser removes the obstruction, seals the area around the tissues after they have been vaporized, which prevents bleeding and leaves the prostate cavity clean.

Clinical Advantages:

PVP is essentially bloodless
PVP is fast, providing immediate and complete vaporization of the adenoma tissue
PVP is a minimally invasive procedure, can be performed on an outpatient basis and, thus, reduces healthcare costs to the patient
PVP significantly reduces post-op discomfort and lowers morbidity of incontinence and impotence.
PVP significantly reduces retrograde ejaculation rates. PVP can safely treat enlarged prostrates that are more than 100 grams.
